Capiz is a flat, oyster-like shell, which occurs in large quantities in the waters around the Philippine islands. The shell is fairly round and flat. In the Spanish colonial period they were mainly used for windows in houses because of their translucent character.
Kinta has been working with various capiz producers at different locations (in Manila and Cebu) for years. The products in Cebu are produced by family businesses under the supervision of our local coordinator. She attaches great importance to the well-being and working conditions of the employees. Production in Manila is handled by an old family business with more than fifty employees, which works with a number of smaller cooperatives.
Maintenance
If necessary - in the case of laminated capiz: briefly - wash the capiz in lukewarm soapy water. Do not put in the dishwasher or microwave. Avoid scratching the surface with sharp objects.
